First Impressions
Bathtub Gin Cask Aged takes the beloved compound gin and fills tiny octave casks — roughly a fifth of standard hogshead capacity — for three to six months. The small cask size means greater spirit-to-wood contact, extracting maximum flavour in minimum time. The result adds caramelised orange, butter, and vanilla to the already creamy, spice-driven Bathtub character.
Tasting
The nose presents rich juniper with soft caramelised orange — the cask adding sweetness and viscosity. On the palate, creamy soft butter and vanilla with velvety mouthfeel — wonderful creamy orange sweetness that still reads clearly as gin but with barrel richness. The finish sees juniper returning as the palate dries, with citrus zest, cardamom, and a whisker of dry wood spice.
The Bottom Line
Bathtub Gin Cask Aged earns an 8 for adding genuine barrel complexity to the compound gin without losing its identity. The tiny octave casks and 3-6 month ageing produce a gin that is spicy, rich, and buttery. At around £35, excellent in a Martinez, Negroni, or simply contemplated neat. Brown paper, aged in wood.
