First Impressions
BrewDog — Scotland's punk craft beer brand — launched their distilling arm with LoneWolf gin, distilled in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Fourteen botanicals including Tuscan juniper, Scots pine needles from Aberdeenshire, kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass, lavender, and pink peppercorn. Triple-distilled.
Tasting
Fourteen botanicals triple-distilled. The nose is bold juniper with Scots pine and citrus. On the palate at 40%, juniper-forward with pine, kaffir lime, lemongrass, peppercorn, and lavender. The finish is pine and juniper.
The Bottom Line
LoneWolf earns a 7 — BrewDog's spirit-making ambitions produce a gin of genuine complexity. The Scots pine from Aberdeenshire and kaffir lime leaf create a distinctive profile. At £25, impressive value from Scotland's most rebellious distillery.
