First Impressions
Campfire London Dry from Puddingstone Distillery in Tring uses ten botanicals including the unusual trio of coffee cherry, roasted hazelnut and physalis (golden berry), alongside rooibos. IWSC judges described it as 'refined, athletic, smooth, elegantly formed — beautifully balanced.'
Tasting
The nose shows citrus and juniper with coffee and dark chocolate hints. On the palate, juniper and coriander with sweet citrus — coffee cherry depth, roasted hazelnut warmth, physalis tropical sweetness, building peppery finish. The IWSC finish: linear, lifted, elegant and fine.
The Bottom Line
Campfire earns an 8 for a London Dry with the most creative botanical bill — coffee cherry, hazelnut and physalis are found in no other gin. The IWSC's 'beautifully balanced' is exactly right. The nutty-fruity build that increases sip after sip is the signature. A gin that rewards patience.
