First Impressions
Cannonball is Edinburgh Gin's navy strength expression, named for the One O'Clock Gun that fires daily from Edinburgh Castle. It uses double the juniper of the classic Edinburgh Gin and adds Szechuan peppercorns for a signature spicy kick. At 57.2%, it sits above the minimum 57% navy strength threshold.
Tasting
The nose is powerfully spirited — juniper cuts through first, followed by black pepper, ginger, cinnamon and citrus. Bold and piquant. On the palate, an immediate burst of robust juniper, both invigorating and bold, with the Szechuan pepper showing through alongside lemon juice and lemon oils. The finish is warm and enduring with lasting juniper and peppery warmth.
The Bottom Line
Cannonball earns an 8 for delivering the intensity a navy strength demands without losing composure. The double juniper and Szechuan pepper combination is distinctive and memorable, and the 57.2% carries heat without burn. Fantastic in a Negroni or Martini where the proof keeps the gin's character alive through mixing.
