Tart green apple becoming evident and refreshing — pine, camphor, lavender, lemon zest, ginger and black pepper spice

First Impressions

Elephant London Dry Gin has won Spirit of the Year four times — an extraordinary achievement that places it among the most decorated gins in the world. The 14 African-inspired botanicals — including devil's claw, buchu, baobab, lion's tail, and African wormwood — create a gin of genuine provenance, and 15% of profits fund elephant conservation in Africa.

Tasting

The nose is piney juniper with herbal spicy notes — ginger, coriander, and elderflower. On the palate, orange and ginger arrive early, juniper mid-palate, with cubeb-type pepper, berry notes, thyme, and gingerbread character. Gentler than the juniper-heavy nose would indicate. The finish features tart green apple, pine, camphor, lavender, ginger, and black pepper.

The Bottom Line

Elephant London Dry earns an 8 for combining four-time Spirit of the Year quality with genuine conservation purpose. The 14 African botanicals create depth, and the 15% profit donation adds meaning. At around £30, extraordinary value for an award-winning gin that saves elephants.
