First Impressions
Origin Pejë is the Kosovo expression in Master of Malt's single-estate series — juniper sourced from the mountains near Pejë in western Kosovo, distilled from English wheat spirit with no other botanicals. Each bottle includes a 10ml vial of cold-distilled additional botanicals. The concept remains the same: taste the terroir of juniper, then decide if you want more.
Tasting
One botanical: juniper from Pejë, Kosovo. The nose reveals almond, citrus peel, and lemongrass — a distinctly different character from the Montenegro expression. On the palate at 46%, silky smooth with warm brown sugar sweetness from the juniper. Not smoky but rich and lovely. The finish is warm with the Kosovo mountain juniper's almond quality lingering.
The Bottom Line
Origin Pejë earns a 7 — a fascinating comparison to the Montenegro expression, proving that juniper from different mountains tastes genuinely different. The Kosovo juniper is warmer, sweeter, with more almond character. Taste them side by side for a masterclass in terroir. At £39, another educational and delicious single-estate gin from the Origin series.
