First Impressions
Rock Rose Summer Edition set itself a challenge: make a citrus gin using only garden-grown botanicals with no peels. Lemon balm, clover, lemon thyme, pineapple sage, meadowsweet and elderflower from the distillery gardens provide all the citrus character. The result proves it can be done.
Tasting
The nose is fresh lemon with herbal depth. On the palate, citrus-led with lots of lemon — savoury lemon thyme and light garden herbs. The finish is refreshing with soft citrus.
The Bottom Line
Rock Rose Summer earns a 7 for the clever concept of citrus without peels. The garden-grown botanicals create a cleaner, greener citrus character than conventional peel-based gins, and the result is deliciously refreshing for summer drinking.
