First Impressions
Scapegrace Uncommon Central Otago Early Harvest is a limited edition of just 3,000 individually numbered bottles, inspired by New Zealand's premier wine region at the start of harvest season. Twelve botanicals include nectarine, lavender, smoked hay and pollen — capturing the terroir of Central Otago in gin form.
Tasting
The nose is bright and floral with stone fruit and juniper — rich nectarine and lavender with subtle smoked hay earthiness and pollen. On the palate, punchy vivid nectarine followed by savoury pollen, with citrus and coriander through the mid-palate. Smooth and complex. The finish is clean, refined and savoury with lavender and juniper building.
The Bottom Line
Scapegrace Uncommon Central Otago earns an 8 for genuinely capturing a sense of place. The nectarine-lavender-smoked hay combination evokes New Zealand wine country, and the limited 3,000-bottle run ensures craft integrity. Best in a White Negroni with grapefruit zest and olive garnish.
