First Impressions
Shortcross is distilled on Rademon Estate in County Down, Northern Ireland — locally foraged wild clover, elderflowers, elderberries and green apples give it distinctive character. Bottled at 46% to retain rich botanical oils, it is a classical gin style with a wild meadow twist.
Tasting
The nose delivers nutty, woody angelica with lavender and camphor from generous juniper — water releases parma violet and elderflower. On the palate, soft mouthfeel with faint sweetness — wild clover meadow essence, wild berries and grassy notes over a traditional juniper-led base. Well integrated and distinctive. The finish carries floral meadow character with green freshness.
The Bottom Line
Shortcross earns an 8 for an Irish gin with genuine estate provenance. The wild clover is a unique foraged botanical that gives it character no other gin can replicate, and the 46% retains all those beautiful oils. Best with elderflower tonic, orange and mint.
