First Impressions
St. Giles Gin is distilled five times in Norwich, Norfolk with eleven carefully selected botanicals including rose petals, lemongrass and grains of paradise. Head Distiller Pete Margree uses a bespoke copper still to create what the distillery describes as among the finest gins in the world.
Tasting
The nose shows citrus of grapefruit and lime, punctuated by peppery spice. On the palate, well-rounded and smooth with soft ripe berry fruitiness and underlying mellow spices from the five-distillation process. The finish lingers with refreshing citrus and delicate floral notes.
The Bottom Line
St. Giles earns a 7 for meticulous Norfolk craft. The five distillations create remarkable smoothness, and the rose petal-lemongrass combination gives it elegance. The Divers' Edition with Norfolk samphire and sea kelp is also worth exploring.
