First Impressions
Thompson Bros Organic Mediterranean Gin comes from Dornoch Distillery in the Scottish Highlands — a distillery better known for its internationally acclaimed single malt whisky. Seasonal organic bergamot, lemon, orange, rosemary, thyme and bay leaf are individually distilled and blended with a proprietary base botanical recipe. The final blend is slowly diluted over a minimum of two weeks for maximum integration.
Tasting
The nose is crisp with bright citrus, gentle salinity, resinous juniper oils, clay pots, thyme and beeswax. On the palate, fresh clean herbs with rosemary leading — gentle chalky minerality, lemon peel, olives, brine and sancho pepper. The finish delivers aromatic pepper, brine, juniper and lingering citrus oils.
The Bottom Line
Thompson Bros Mediterranean earns an 8 for the kind of meticulous gin-making that whisky distillers bring when they turn their attention to botanicals. The two-week slow dilution and individual distillation of each seasonal ingredient create remarkable integration. Exported to over 12 countries for good reason.
