First Impressions
Tiptree English Damson Gin Liqueur comes from Wilkin & Sons — the Essex jam makers who have been preserving English fruit since 1885. Each damson plum is hand-picked and rested in Hayman's London Dry Gin. When you buy from jam makers, you get people who truly understand fruit.
Tasting
The nose delivers jammy tones of red damsons — rich and fruity. On the palate, a rush of fruit bursting through — deeper, more pronounced damson tones with sugared almonds and a stone-caused marzipan note. The finish carries almond and marzipan from the stones with velvet sweetness.
The Bottom Line
Tiptree English Damson earns a 7 for fruit liqueur expertise applied to gin. The base gin is less apparent here — it is more about the fruit — but the damson character is authentic and deep. The marzipan note from the stones adds complexity that cheaper alternatives miss. Best in a Damson Gin Royale with Prosecco.
