First Impressions
Wicked Wolf distils each of eleven organic, fairtrade botanicals individually and extremely slowly in copper alembic stills to capture the full gamut of flavour. The individual distillates are then blended, filtered, bottled and labelled by hand in exclusive 100-litre batches on Exmoor, North Devon. Launched in 2015.
Tasting
The nose delivers vibrant citrus with lemon verbena, cardamom and kaffir lime leaf. On the palate, citrus contrasts earthier juniper and coriander, with floral hibiscus, lemongrass and black pepper creating complex spicy layers. The finish lingers with pepper and potpourri, juniper leading to a clean bittersweet close.
The Bottom Line
Wicked Wolf earns an 8 for Exmoor organic craft at its most meticulous. The individual distillation of each botanical creates clarity that blending-before-distillation cannot achieve, and the 100-litre batches ensure genuine small-batch character. The kaffir lime-hibiscus-lemongrass combination gives it a contemporary edge that distinguishes it from traditional Devon gins.
