Tasting Notes

Nose

Juniper leading warm floral spice — sweet grassy fennel tones, the Sichuan peppercorn adding an intriguing aromatic lift

Palate

Citrus and sweet earthy anise — Sichuan peppercorn providing a distinctive numbing tingle, juniper structuring throughout, liquorice and orris adding depth, unlike almost anything else in the gin category

Finish

Long and moreish — the Sichuan peppercorn's tingle persisting, fennel sweetness, dry juniper, genuinely distinctive

Expert Review

7/10

From the Tower Street Stillhouse in Leith — 'Achroous' meaning 'colourless' in ancient Greek, packaged in a bright red bottle as a deliberate pun. Seven botanicals including Sichuan peppercorn for numbing spice and fennel for sweet anise. Founded by Heriot-Watt brewing graduate James Porteous.
