Tasting Notes
Nose
Tropical fruit and toasted bread — boiled sweet character, juniper restrained, the citrus botanicals leading, unusual coffee note emerging
Palate
Light and soft with coffee and vanilla — some juniper present at 38%, zingy citrus of orange lemon and lime throughout, a delectable coffee note shining through the background, warm despite the lower ABV
Finish
Citrus-forward fade — coffee and vanilla notes lingering, moderate warmth, clean and straightforward, the kind of finish that pairs with conversation rather than demanding analysis
Expert Review
6/10Ireland's number one selling gin, with roots stretching to 1793 at the Watercourse Distillery in Cork. The current recipe was perfected in 1941 by master distiller Max Crockett, inspired by an 18th-century recipe. Production moved to Midleton Distillery following the 1867 amalgamation of five Cork distilleries. Acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1988. Citrus-forward with coffee and vanilla notes, an unpretentious Irish pub gin that outsells everything else on its home turf.
