Darnley's Original Gin is a London Dry gin made by Kingsbarns Distillery in Scotland. ABV: 40% ABV. Key botanicals include juniper, lemon peel, elderflower, coriander, angelica root. Our expert rating is 7/10.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Juniper-led — warm white pepper, strong coriander and sage aromas, good lemon notes, the elderflower emerging gently

Palate

Classic London Dry initially — then as the citrus falls away elderflower emerges, followed by warm ginger, rounded and creamy with angelica and lemon, a burst of spicy coriander appearing after a moment

Finish

Creamy throughout — round, smooth, warm, the elderflower providing a floral sweetness that lifts the close, long and satisfying

Expert Review

7/10

Named for the moment Mary Queen of Scots first spied Lord Darnley at Wemyss Castle in 1565 — just six botanicals with elderflower as the point of difference. The Wemyss family's gin from Fife, where elderflower is balanced perfectly: floral enough to notice, restrained enough not to overwhelm.
