Tasting Notes
Nose
Wonderfully clean and fragrant — juniper presented as lavender and camphor rather than pungent pine, lime cordial and floral notes, delicate hibiscus, nutty angelica root emerging with time
Palate
Initial sweetness quickly countered by a cleansing peppery bite — cinnamon warmth and black pepper binding floral and spicy flavours, jammy elderberry mid-palate, well-integrated and balanced throughout
Finish
Dry with an impression of sweetness from berry flavours — moderately warm with little astringency, juniper reasserting itself on the exhale, cinnamon lingering
Expert Review
8/10Launched on 5th December 2011 — the anniversary of Prohibition's repeal — from a Williamsburg factory with an on-site bar called The Shanty. Co-founded by Allen Katz and Brooklyn Brewery's Tom Potter, distilled on a custom German copper hybrid still. Elderberries and hibiscus meet traditional juniper in a floral, peppery American gin that Difford's rates 4.5 out of 5.
