Tasting Notes

Nose

Gentle fresh juniper and lime — the African juniper having a different character from European varieties, more herbaceous and green, less piney, delicate herbal notes

Palate

Lime present but juniper dominant — lovely oily mouthfeel, cardamom arriving with bold mint and eucalyptus notes, the fresh African juniper providing a quality that dried juniper cannot match, Somalian honey adding subtle sweetness, pink peppercorn warmth

Finish

Peppery kick from Nigerian Selim pepper and Madagascar pink peppercorn — spicy and warming, the fresh juniper lingering, green tea providing a tannic backbone, complex and long, best sipped straight

Expert Review

8/10

Distilled in Nairobi using Juniperus procera — African juniper that only grows above 1,500 metres, harvested fresh (not dried) at 2,200 metres in the Kijabe Forest. All eleven botanicals sourced from across Africa: Moroccan coriander, Somalian honey, Madagascar pink peppercorn, Nigerian Selim pepper, Tanzanian cardamom. Hand-blown bottles from Kitingela Hot Glass, palm wood stoppers, leather work. Launched 2019. A genuinely pan-African gin.
