First Impressions
Bathtub Gin's Grapefruit and Rosemary expression takes the beloved compound method — crushed botanicals infused in pot-still spirit — and adds a Mediterranean twist. The original Bathtub Gin's spice-driven, creamy character is the foundation, and grapefruit and rosemary are infused alongside the base botanicals to create something that bridges the gap between the classic compound gin and the sun-drenched flavours of the Mediterranean coast.
Bottled at the same 43.3% ABV as the original, in the same brown paper and string packaging, it maintains the Bathtub identity while offering a distinctly different drinking experience.
The Distillery
Atom Brands uses the same compound method as the original: the base six botanicals — juniper, coriander, orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom — are joined by grapefruit and rosemary, all infused and blended before bottling. The grapefruit contributes bright citrus and bittersweet character, while the rosemary adds an aromatic, herbal dimension that transforms the overall profile.
Tasting
The nose opens familiarly — full-bodied juniper, cardamom, and orange greet you with the warmth that Bathtub is known for. Then the new botanicals make their entrance: fragrant, floral rosemary appears alongside an abundance of bright, fresh grapefruit. The herbal smoke of the rosemary adds a subtle complexity. It is the Bathtub nose you know, with a Mediterranean holiday layered on top.
On the palate, fresh juicy grapefruit makes itself known immediately — vivid, slightly bitter, and engagingly citric. The initial impression is of grapefruit marmalade, followed by the increasingly zesty pithiness of peel. The mid-palate brings the familiar Bathtub territory: earthy cinnamon, juniper, and more rosemary, all maintaining the signature creamy mouthfeel that the compound method delivers. The rosemary is aromatic and well-integrated, never becoming soapy or aggressive.
The finish carries lasting hints of subtly festive spice and sweet citrus. There is an encore of grapefruit with a slightly oily, lingering character and a final touch of sweetness. The rosemary adds a herbal grace note to the conclusion.
How to Drink It
In a G&T, use Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic and garnish with a grapefruit slice and a sprig of fresh rosemary — the garnish mirrors the botanical additions and creates a visually striking drink. It also makes an outstanding Rosemary Gimlet: Bathtub Grapefruit & Rosemary, lime juice, and a rosemary-infused simple syrup.
The Bottom Line
Bathtub Gin Grapefruit and Rosemary earns a 7.5 for successfully extending the compound gin concept into Mediterranean territory. The grapefruit and rosemary additions are inspired — they complement rather than compete with the original spice-driven character, and the signature Bathtub creaminess is preserved throughout. At around £30, it represents good value and a genuinely different take on the flavoured gin category. Mediterranean sunshine, wrapped in brown paper.
