First Impressions
Berkshire Botanical's pot still resides in an unusual location: The Royal Oak Public House in the village of Yattendon, at the heart of a 9,000-acre estate. The Honey & Orange Blossom expression takes their copper pot-distilled gin and gently infuses it with orange blossom and local Berkshire honey — not honey flavouring, but actual honey from the surrounding countryside. Master Medal Winner at The Gin Masters 2021.
Tasting
The nose is fragrant orange blossom with light honey notes and crisp juniper underneath. On the palate at 40.3%, orange blossom florals lead with local honey providing gentle sweetness that never dominates. Crisp juniper maintains gin identity, and citrus brightness cuts through the honey. The key achievement: this is sweet without being sickly — 'a ginny nectar in a bottle' as one reviewer described it. The finish is honey warmth with lingering orange blossom and dry juniper.
The Bottom Line
Berkshire Botanical Honey & Orange Blossom earns a 7 — a flavoured gin that achieves the rare balance of genuine sweetness without losing its gin credentials. The pub-based distillery and 9,000-acre estate provide wonderful provenance, and the local honey adds real terroir. Best with elderflower tonic as the producer recommends, or in a Bee's Knees where honey meets honey. At £35, a Master Medal-winning gin from one of England's most charming distillery locations.
