First Impressions

Foxdenton Estate completes its fruit gin trilogy (alongside the Sloe and Damson) with this Raspberry Gin Liqueur. The method is consistent with their other expressions: whole Herefordshire raspberries steeped in London Dry gin to capture pure, natural fruit flavour. At 21.5% ABV, it is the gentlest of the three — a liqueur designed for easy drinking, summer cocktails, and moments when you want the taste of fresh raspberries with a gin backbone rather than a gin with a raspberry accent.

The raspberries are sourced from Herefordshire — a county renowned for its fruit-growing climate — and the commitment to whole fruit rather than flavour extracts gives Foxdenton's Raspberry a naturalness that many competitors cannot match.

The Distillery

Foxdenton Estate in Buckinghamshire has built its reputation on fruit liqueurs made with integrity. The Raspberry Gin uses their London Dry base — distilled at Thames Distillers — as the foundation, with whole raspberries steeped to extract colour, flavour, and the berry's natural sweetness. The lower ABV compared to their Sloe (25%) and Damson (18.5%) reflects the raspberry's naturally sweeter, softer character — the fruit does not need the higher proof to deliver its flavour.

Tasting

The nose is full of ripe red berries — intensely natural, unmistakably raspberry, and with a full-bodied richness that speaks to the quality of the Herefordshire fruit. There are no artificial notes, no confectionery sweetness — just the honest aroma of raspberries at their peak. The gin base recedes almost entirely on the nose, allowing the fruit to dominate completely.

On the palate, ripe red berries continue the theme established by the nose. The flavour is lovely and mild on the tongue — soft, approachable, and bursting with natural fruit character. There is a slight burn at the end that reminds you of the gin base and prevents the sweetness from becoming one-dimensional. The liqueur is wonderfully sweet but not cloying — the raspberry's natural tartness provides just enough counterpoint. The pure, natural fruit flavour is Foxdenton's greatest achievement here.

The finish is long and refreshing, with natural raspberry sweetness and clean fruit character that does not fatigue the palate. It is a finish that invites another sip — easy, pleasant, and unpretentious.

How to Drink It

The gentle ABV and pure fruit character make Foxdenton Raspberry a supremely versatile ingredient. Over ice with a splash of prosecco, it makes an effortless aperitif. In a Raspberry Gin Fizz — with lemon juice, sugar syrup, and soda — it creates a drink of wonderful colour and flavour. It also works beautifully drizzled over a bowl of vanilla ice cream or panna cotta.

For cocktails, use it to add natural fruit character to a Clover Club or a Bramble without the need for additional raspberry syrup — the liqueur provides both the fruit and the sweetness in one ingredient.

The Bottom Line

Foxdenton Raspberry Gin Liqueur earns a 7 for delivering honest, natural raspberry flavour with the integrity that the Foxdenton name guarantees. It does not pretend to be something it isn't — at 21.5% ABV, it is firmly in liqueur territory, and the gin character is a background note rather than a driving force. But as a fruit liqueur, it is among the best available: real fruit, real quality, and a natural character that artificial flavourings cannot replicate. At around £28, it is a lovely summer bottle and a versatile cocktail ingredient from a producer that has earned trust through consistent quality.
