Tasting Notes

Nose

Spices and clear juniper — green tea notes, citrus tones from the bergamot, complex and layered, the Sencha adding an umami quality

Palate

Juniper spiciness — green tea's vegetal depth, bergamot providing Earl Grey citrus-floral character, elderflower sweetness, cinnamon and cardamom warmth, the separately macerated Sencha adding a dimension few gins attempt

Finish

Silky smooth — green tea and bergamot lingering, warming spice, long and satisfying, heavy metal's gentler side

First Impressions

In Flames — the Swedish melodic death metal band — created their No.13 signature craft gin series with guitarist Niclas Engelin leading the flavour development. Batch 3 combines Sencha green tea (macerated separately for maximum extraction) with sun-drenched bergamots alongside juniper, coriander, lemon peel, cinnamon, cardamom, and elderflower. Master distiller Daniel Henriksson at Spirit of Hven manages the distillation.

Tasting

Sencha green tea, bergamot, juniper, and six supporting botanicals. The nose is spices with clear juniper and green tea. On the palate at 40%, juniper spiciness with green tea depth, bergamot's Earl Grey character, elderflower sweetness, and warming spice. The finish is silky smooth with lingering tea and bergamot.

The Bottom Line

In Flames Green Tea & Bergamot earns a 7 — a celebrity gin that genuinely delivers flavour innovation. The separately macerated Sencha and bergamot create an Earl Grey-meets-gin profile that is both unusual and delicious. At £69, premium pricing for a limited band collaboration, but the liquid justifies the investment. Best with tonic where it shows its best side. Heavy metal, refined.
