First Impressions
LoneWolf is BrewDog's gin, launched in 2017 from their Aberdeenshire distillery. Fourteen botanicals are distilled in the world's first triple bubble copper pot still, using five times more juniper than the average craft gin. Thai lemongrass, pink peppercorn, kaffir lime leaf and Scots pine are among the more unusual additions.
Tasting
The nose delivers a punchy juniper backbone with delicate lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf bouncing off the pine. On the palate, fresh citrus of grapefruit, lemongrass and lemon peel flow into spicy coriander and pink peppercorn — earthy balance with mace, then sweet lavender and Scots pine. The finish is sweet and floral with pine needles anchoring the juniper.
The Bottom Line
LoneWolf earns a 7 for a juniper-heavy gin with craft brewery ambition. The triple bubble still and five-times-juniper loading create genuine intensity, and the Triple Gold at the 2024 Scottish Gin Awards (Gin of the Year, Gin & Tonic, Distilled) confirms the quality. At around £25, excellent value from an unexpected source.
