First Impressions
Unveiled in mid-2015, Masons Lavender quickly became Yorkshire's most awarded flavoured gin: Best British Contemporary Gin at the 2018 World Gin Awards, Gold at the San Francisco Spirits Competition 2019, and Double Gold at the China Wine & Spirits Awards 2018. The intense, fragrant lavender is layered onto their Harrogate water-based Yorkshire gin.
Tasting
The nose is subtle juniper with aromatic lavender and sweet citrus. On the palate at 42%, sweet and delicate: heady, perfumed lavender with all botanicals singing in harmony. An element of sweetness is balanced by a crisp dry finish. Liquorice adds depth. The finish is crisp and dry — juniper reasserting despite the lavender.
The Bottom Line
Masons Lavender earns an 8 — the most decorated of Masons' range, with international gold medals confirming that lavender gin can be world-class. The Harrogate water and crisp dry finish prevent the lavender from becoming perfumey. Best in a G&T with elderflower tonic. At £31, a multi-gold-medal lavender gin at an everyday price.
