First Impressions
Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin won a Master medal at The Gin Masters 2017 — and the concept is as wild as the award is prestigious. Whole peeled pineapples are coated with demerara sugar and literally spit-roasted until the sugar caramelises. The caramelised pineapple is then used as the primary botanical alongside juniper and spice.
Tasting
The nose is the inside of a pineapple fritter — juicy with zestiness and light caramel. On the palate, an indulgent harmony of sweet-sour pineapple and rich caramel, with grilled peach, citrus, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The finish lingers with sweet pineapple alongside dry crisp gin freshness. Extraordinary.
The Bottom Line
Spit-Roasted Pineapple earns an 8 for turning an absurd concept — spit-roasting whole pineapples for gin — into a Master medal winner. The caramelised tropical character is genuinely delicious. At around £30, Boutique-y at their most inspired.
