First Impressions
The Prince of Darkness Edition was created to mark the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker's Dracula — the novel in which the Count arrives in Whitby aboard the ship Demeter. Classic Whitby Gin is rested in Transylvanian oak casks before being combined with cherry for a crimson, gothic twist. It is a companion piece to the Demeter Edition.
Tasting
The nose delivers citrus with a hint of smokiness from Transylvanian oak, partnered with jammy cherry sweetness. On the palate, sweet cherry notes balanced against smokiness creating fierce warmth with bite — resinous juniper beneath warm woody spice and tempting juicy cherry. The finish shows great elegance and length.
The Bottom Line
Whitby Prince of Darkness earns a 7 for genuine literary provenance and creative execution. The Transylvanian oak casks are a brilliant touch — adding smokiness that no other gin possesses — and the cherry adds gothic crimson colour and fruit. A collector's gin with substance behind the story.
