Tasting Notes

Nose

Mint, eucalyptus, pine needles — citrus underneath, aromatic and complex, the 1840s recipe immediately evident in the depth of character

Palate

Slightly sweet liquorice and almond — orange peel brightness, strong violet and lavender mid-palate, a cereally background with sage, natural residual sweetness from the botanicals alone, no added sugar

Finish

Earthy and deep — the natural sweetness lingering without cloying, lavender and sage persisting, a Victorian gin in modern glass

Expert Review

8/10

An 1840s recipe from a distiller's notebook — Christian Jensen tasted vintage gins from London's lost distilleries and recreated their character. Distilled under a railway arch in Bermondsey since 2013. A true Old Tom without added sweetener: earthy, deep, and complex at 43%.
