First Impressions
The White Edition is Amuerte's second expression — created by Eveline and Jeroen, who together represent the fourth generation of a Belgian distilling family with 112 years of combined experience. Where the Black Edition uses tropical fruits, the White Edition turns to finger lime (the Australian 'caviar lime' whose tiny pearls burst with citrus) and Sichuan pepper for numbing heat. The same decocainised Peruvian coca leaves, the same 24-carat gold leaf, a different personality.
Tasting
Botanicals include juniper, coca leaf, finger lime, cardamom, coriander, and Sichuan pepper. The nose is fresh citrus — lime and orange with spicy coriander and pepper. On the palate at 43%, crisp coca leaf flavour ranging from bitter to sweet, finger lime's caviar-like citrus bursting, cardamom warmth, Sichuan pepper numbing heat. The finish is medium-long with lingering fruit and pepper.
The Bottom Line
Amuerte White earns a 7 — the finger lime and Sichuan pepper create a brighter, more Asian-influenced expression than the tropical Black Edition. The coca leaf remains the signature, providing that distinctive herbal bitterness. The 24-carat gold leaf adds theatre. Best in a G&T with lime tonic or neat. At £58, luxury Belgian gin with fourth-generation expertise and a white skull that demands attention.
