First Impressions
'Mór' — Irish for 'big' — was founded by Eoin Bara in 2015 at Arderin Distillery in Tullamore, County Offaly. Named after Arderin, the highest point of the Slieve Bloom Mountains whose water feeds the distillery, this is a gin that wears its Irish provenance on its sleeve. Wild blackberries, cranberries, and raspberries alongside honeysuckle and Slieve Bloom mountain water create a berry-forward gin that a reviewer noted was the clear favourite at a 20-person tasting party.
Tasting
Eight botanicals: juniper, angelica, coriander, rosemary, blackberry, cranberry, raspberry, and honeysuckle. The nose is earthy at first — coriander and rosemary make a bold impression before sweetness emerges from the berries underneath. On the palate, sweet and juicy: big bundles of fresh berry notes at the core, rosemary providing herbal backbone, honeysuckle adding floral sweetness. A slight peppery hint provides balance. The finish is berry-sweet with rosemary's herbal dryness preventing it from becoming cloying.
The Bottom Line
Mór earns a 7 — fruity but distinguished, with rosemary and coriander providing enough herbal structure to prevent it from becoming a berry-flavoured spirit. The Slieve Bloom mountain water adds a softness to the mouthfeel that makes this dangerously drinkable. Best in a G&T with elderflower tonic and fresh berries, or in a Bramble where the berry notes amplify beautifully. At £32, well-priced Irish craft that delivers exactly what it promises.
