First Impressions
Whittaker's Summer Solstice combines fresh pink grapefruit (plus a touch of white grapefruit for softness) with pomegranate over the Yorkshire gin base. Totally unfiltered — it may turn cloudy over ice as the oils emerge, but this preserves the nose, taste and character.
Tasting
The nose shows waxy pink grapefruit with pomegranate and thyme. On the palate, leafy and reviving with tart pomegranate, citrus and pine — the unfiltered oils adding body. The finish is lingering grapefruit and pine needles, crisp and clean.
The Bottom Line
Whittaker's Summer Solstice earns a 7 for seasonal Yorkshire gin at its most honest. The unfiltered approach and cloudy-over-ice character show commitment to flavour over aesthetics. Limited editions include a King's Coronation version. Best served over ice to watch the oils emerge.
